Set of 2 porcelain teacups and saucers broken and glued back together
Dimensions variable
By breaking and assembling back this set of teacups and saucers, I want to make evident the problems and conflicts that married couples may have during their life together, and that usually remain secret and/or hidden, thus giving the appearance that everything is all right.
Installed in Madame Eliza Jumel’s dressing room at the Morris-Jumel Mansion—Manhattan’s oldest house, built in 1765—her three-year marriage of convenience to former United States Vice President Aaron Burr, inspired me to create this piece and reflect on the difficulties of marriage.
