Alejandro Gómez de Tuddo
One of a new generation of Latin American artists whose images capture and reflect the spirit of time with a powerful and enigmatic beauty that mutates from the photographic to the symbolic and visionary.
Born in Mexico City, currently lives in Rome.
Obtained a Law Degree from Universidad Iberoamericana of Mexico and a Masters Degree in International Economic Law from the Université de Paris I (Panthèon-Sorbonne). Studied photography at the École Nationale de Photographie of Arles, France, as well as at the International Center of Photography (ICP) of New York; and filmmaking at New York University (NYU).
In Mexico he participated in several artistic projects with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Internal Affairs, the Social Security Administration, the Institute of Fine Arts, and other public and private institutions.
He has also worked internationally for various photographic agencies, and magazines. His work can be found in specialized art books and catalogues, including those of his own imprint, Uroboros-Basilisco, where he has published: “Aura de dragones” (1999), “México Inédito”(2001) and “Guadalupe”(2003).
His work projects the control of light and subject usually associated with the studio, but the images are always produced under conditions that provide those uncanny conjunctions that can only occur in everyday life, captured by his unique and observant intuitive eye. The real nature of the photographed subject matter often remains a mystery.
His most recent exhibitions include Diari di lavoro di artisti stranieri a Roma (Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, Rome 2002), Perro-nahual (Roman Forum –first international festival of photography- Rome 2002), No Money No Honey (Arèa contenitore d’arte contemporanea, Palermo 2003), My Ready-dead (PS122 virtual gallery/artwurl, NY 2003), Diario (Università di Roma tre, Rome 2003), Anima e corpo (Galleria del Premio, Suzzara 2003), and Life-still Circus (Supperclub, 4Romaeuropafestival, Rome 2003).
Among the exhibitions that will take place this year are: Filottete (Swiss Institute, Rome), Tempo incerto (Castel Sant Elmo, Naples), Fotografía contemporánea mexicana (Festival de Fotografía Contemporánea, Huelva, Spain), A Treausury of Dismemberment (Fisher Gallery, USC, LA, California), Life-still (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Fundidora Monterrey, México).
